I’m not going to lie, I was anticipating our most recent holiday to just be more of the same thing. You know how it goes, parenting in a different location?
Well I couldn’t have been more wrong, and that was proven from the get-go.
Despite a half hour delay to board, then another half hour spent on the tarmac, the kids sat patiently, without one single tantrum. Seriously.
This had to be a good sign, right?
The rest of the plane ride was just as easy. And the holiday just got even better.
We landed to beautiful blue skies and sunshine and wasted no time heading down to the beach where the boys frolicked on the sand and splashed in the water.
The holiday was also our first attempt at seeing how the boys would go sharing a room. I was nervously expecting middle of the night shenanigans, or at least 5am wake ups. But no, they chatted (which was so adorable) before going to sleep and woke up at their normal time of 6am, mostly happy.
In 5 days I only had to hand out one time out. That was it! Anyone who has a 3 year old knows that this is possibly a miracle.
I don’t know if it was the salt water, or the sunshine, but we were, for nearly a week, in harmony.
So much so, that coming home to pouring rain and a dead bird the dog had decided to track throughout the house, didn’t phase us.
Even though it could be a while before we experience it again, I’m holding a little piece of this holiday in a warm place in my heart. I’ll draw on it in times of tension….which of course there have already been many since return back to our normal routines….and know that we will have blissful moments like this again.
What is the best holiday you’ve ever had with your family?
